Exfoliated Vermiculite

Exfoliated Vermiculite in theory

The low-weight vermiculite added mortar, NTC FLOC, allows you to achieve the ideal smoothening with the least amount of weight.
Besides its low weight, the mortar has thermal and acoustic isolation properties, providing thermal comfort and reducing noise between pavements.

The vermiculite is a mineral composed by hydrated aluminum and hydrated magnesium silicates. The product presents low electrical conductivity, high heat insulation and high acoustic insulation; it does not decompose, deteriorate or rot; do not attract termites or insects.

When under proper heat, the water contained in its infinite layers turns into steam, making the vermiculite particles explode and transforming themselves into bellowed flakes, their expanded form.

Every expanded flake imprisons in itself air cells, which grants the material excellent insulation capabilities.

At civil construction

Efficient thermal/acoustic insulatuion through its plaster form, here are some mortar volume proportions:

  • Vermiculite; Lime; Cement; Sand = 3; 1; 1; 1
  • Vermiculite; Lime; Cement = 3; 1; 1 (only to internal lining)

Is also broadly used at lightweight concrete formation and at ground level slab subfloors for buildings, here are some ratios:

  • Vermiculite; Cement; Water = 4; 1; 2 (this mixture, when cured, has an approximate density of 700 Kg/m³).
  • Vermiculite; Cement; Water = 5 ou 6 : 1 : 2 (no traffic zone)

Benefits

  • Low weight: 15% to 30% lighter comparing to structural concrete;
  • Insulation: the mortar composed with exfoliated vermiculite has excellent insulation properties. 2,5cm of added mortar correspond to 25cm of regular concrete;
  • Easy to apply: there is no difference between the regular concrete application to the exfoliated vermiculite added mortar. It can even be applied manually;
  • Fireproof: the fire resistance properties are broadly recognized and approved by insurance companies and fire departments;
  • Versatile: can be applied to any foundation, which allows creative solutions for engineers and architects. The thickness may vary to guarantee the necessary measurements for draining;
  • Mechanical Protection: it is an adequate substrate to the placement of cericam tiles and waterproof linings.
